Why is water our most precious resource?

We turn on the tap and then it flows - here on the coast we take it pretty much for granted but what would life be like without it - what am I talking about? ..Water! - our most precious resource - one of the few things that all living things couldn’t do without. 

During this unit, children will investigate water, what it is and it’s various forms. They will discover the most important role human’s must play in ensuring the integrity of the water cycle. The children will analyse just how important water is when they discover the many and varied uses we have for it as well as growing an appreciation of the many work roles of people who ensure our clean drinking water.

Am I really what I eat?

How much truth is there to the old saying, ‘What you eat today lives and breathes tomorrow’? 

During this unit children will investigate the importance of good nutritional habits in gaining lifelong health and well-being. They will explore the notion of nutritional balance and discover the health conditions inherent to poor nutrition. Students will be amazed by what they discover when assessing the nutritional value of some of the foods we commonly eat.

 

 

What are the milestones in Australia’s colonial history?

After setting sail for Botany Bay in 1787, the first European settlers would endure hardships that we can only imagine - harsh and unfamiliar weather conditions, lack of supplies, shortages of food and a total isolation to the outside world. 

During this unit, children will investigate these early beginnings to discover the milestones of the first hundred years of colonial Australia and to appreciate what it would have been like to live in these times.

 

What is our place in space?

‘One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind’

Why are we so fascinated by space? What mysteries does it hold? During this unit children investigate our immediate space environment to discover why the objects that we see in the sky have regular affects to life on Earth. Children will investigate the importance of the space race and discover how life has been affected since mankind walked on the moon.
