How
can we cope with disaster?
Disaster
can strike at anytime. Sometimes there are warnings while at other times they
are impossible to predict, but either way, can we be better prepared?

as well as discovering that accidental disasters will almost certainly affect
all of our lives in some way. Children will investigate disasters that have
occurred in local, national and global settings to establish if these could have
been avoided, how those involved coped and if they could have been better
prepared.

me an individual?

How
do we get the message across?
What
would we do without our newspapers, our TV, radio, fax, computer and even our
mobile phones? Communication is a
necessity in our daily life. The complexity and efficiency of modern
communication is such that Mr Morse and Mr Bell would be absolutely gob smacked.
During
this unit, children will sequence the development of communication technology
from the earliest inventions to modern day innovations and beyond. They will use
various sources to gauge the degree to which communication impacts on our daily
lives. Children will investigate particular communication media in detail and
will have an opportunity to be a journalistic star themselves.
