Instrumental Music Program

Music

Recorder Group

All students begin to learn the recorder in Year 4, and now Year 5 students will continue their recorder study. They are inexpensive, portable instruments that are a springboard for many students who move on to either a woodwind or brass instrument in the School’s Instrumental Program (offered in Year 5). For those students who wish to extend their recorder skills and repertoire while in Year 4, a Lunch Action program is offered once a week.

Kids on Keyboards

This program is offered to students though it is independent of the actual school program.  The group learns under the instruction of Mr Ken Kelly and meet before school each Tuesday.  More information and contact numbers can be obtained by contacting the School Office.
Instrumental Music - Strings, Wind, Percussion

Two visiting teachers take individual, group and band practices several days a week.  Instrumental music programs (string, wind and percussion instruments) are available for children from Years 3-6 in the Primary School, and is continued for students at the Middle School.  Entry into the program is determined at the beginning of each year.

Three factors are taken into consideration

  student ability

  student aptitude

  availability of instruments

Contacts are  Lesley MacLeod and Claire Deady.

Strings Program

Chancellor school has a vibrant string program. At the moment, we have 30 students learning to play violin and cello and a waiting list of students wanting to join the program.

Students are recruited in Year 3,  being tested for ability to recognise rhythm and the ability to sing to pitch. The school has a number of instruments for loan and students who don't have their own instrument can use a school instrument for one year. after a year, if the child wishes to continue, parents are encouraged to provide the child with his/her own instrument. They make excellent Christmas and birthday presents.

There is a small cost involved:-

$10 per semester if the student has an instrument of his/her own

$20 per semester if the students uses a school instrument.

Lessons are presently held on a Thursday during school time with our visiting teacher, Lesley MacLeod.
